W-1 Trimble/SketchUp/EarthCam Technology Session

Start Time: | Length: 3 hours | Audience: All

Presenters: Lisa Kelly, Executive Director, EarthCam; Alexander C. Schreyer, University of Massachusetts

EarthCam technology moves the theoretical and design aspects of construction into real-time imagery and video. Founded in 1996, EarthCam provides live streaming video, time-lapse construction cameras, virtual reality 360° photography documentation, and UAVs to general contractors, developers, and owners around the world. If you want to future-proof your lectures, attend this session to learn about how projects from the World Trade Center to the Louvre in Abu Dhabi to the LA Rams new stadium and Apple stores are all using construction imagery to save time and money and promote their projects. Specific successful integrations include Procore, PlanGrid and Trimble’s SketchUp, which was recently used on EarthCam’s new headquarters and integrated with drone images to compare real-time building progress with planned building progress. Trimble has been in the business of crafting confidence for our customers for over 35 years. Founded on core principles, we stand for: Position, Information, and Communication. Where all points unite, you’ll find Trimble with innovation and technology for the future. This session will focus on how Trimble's robust AECO solutions are helping to improve the industry and influence the educational ecosphere. We'll discuss how incorporating visual data from resources, such as EarthCam with Trimble Solutions (SketchUp), is shaping the landscape of possibilities. We'll also be addressing how industry trends are translating to the university learning environment and share case studies showing the power of well-utilized VDC methodologies.

W-11: Academic Leadership Workshop

Start Time: | Length: 3 hours | Audience: Faculty

The 2018 Leadership Workshop includes current program chairs and administrators who will share current approaches to leadership in construction education. Last year, a similar session was held which focused on how those in leadership positions reached that point and the advice they had for others considering a leadership position. This year, ASC hopes to build on that effort with a slightly different cast and a topic shifted more toward what construction leadership looks like in current practice. Key topics will include internal and external factors influencing leadership approaches; goals, visions, and strategies for programs; and execution of program and initiatives. It is our hope that this session will expose various approaches used at both small and large construction programs and encourage the development of new leaders for Construction Education.
