About This Course

This course introduces students of all disciplines to essential skills involving the investigation and interpretation of the past. Thinking about the rebellions that rocked the Atlantic world during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, we will compare and contrast the diverse political, economic, and social elements surrounding the following conflicts: the American Revolution, the French Revolution, the Haitian Revolution, and the Latin American Wars of Independence.

A critical component of this course is the overall study and writing of history. This class will serve as an introduction to the historical profession and require you to analyze various elements of the historian’s craft.
