It’s been said that leaders aren’t born, they are made. It takes effort to cultivate leadership qualities, and a willingness to be uncomfortable and stretch outside one’s comfort zone. The effort requires time and determination and a desire for excellence. And leaders often need guidance from those who’ve broken the trail ahead of them.

That’s what we’re here for.

The College of Continuing and Professional Studies (CCAPS) provides practical professional development opportunities that impart the skills employers are seeking. Increasingly, employers in a variety of sectors—health care, government, financial, higher education, and insurance, to name a few—are calling for leadership competencies such as critical thinking, problem solving, and the ability to prioritize and resolve conflict.

To get you in the fast lane to leadership, CCAPS is launching the Leadership Essentials Certificate

“We are excited about the launch of our new certificate in leadership,” says Ryan Torma, executive director of CCAPS’s Professional Development and LearningLife. “We've heard from many employers about the need for people to develop foundational leadership skills that will help them advance and make an impact in their organizations.”

The new 48-hour program is designed to hone interpersonal skills and improve professional relationships, enhance the ability to communicate with teams, resolve conflicts, manage multiple priorities, and efficiently solve problems.

As with the rest of the CCAPS continuing education portfolio, courses in the Leadership Essentials Certificate will be taught by seasoned leaders in their respective fields.

“We have many excellent instructors for this program who have developed their leadership expertise as University of Minnesota faculty, leaders in Fortune 500 organizations, and leadership and organizational consultants,” says Torma.
