It wouldn’t be a surprise to overhear “uff da!” uttered frequently in many communities across Minnesota, especially during these COVID-19-challenged times. But where does the phrase come from and who brought it into being? That was the question put to University of Minnesota etymologist and popular LearningLife instructor Anatoly Liberman in the Star Tribune’s May 1 edition of Curious Minnesota.
