Katie Spencer: Hi, I'm Katie Spencer, and I am the Director of Advocacy and Public Policy at the Program of Human Sexuality, the Medical Codirector of Comprehensive Gender Care at M Health Fairview, and Codirector of the National Center for Gender Spectrum Health, all here at the University of Minnesota.

I also am an instructor for Introduction to Health Care for Transgender and Gender-Diverse Adults. Health care for trans folks can be a complex issue, and for too long it's gone misunderstood and under-studied, and often the "T" in LGBT is just an add-on and not given enough attention.

In this course, we'll first take a step back to fully appreciate the components of identity and the systemic marginalization of gender-diverse populations in the health care setting. We'll examine how to care for gender-nonconforming folks, trans health care through the transition process, ongoing health concerns, and much more, much much more, than your usual Trans 101.

We'll have open and honest discussions about gender and sexuality, intersectional identities, the history of and the current realities of trans health care, and we'll set the foundations for competencies in gender health care. You'll also have the option to customize your final project to match your career interest.
