About This Course
Good healthcare treats disease; great healthcare dismantles the barriers that cause it. Equipping future healthcare leaders to merge health equity with high-performance operations, this two-phase, writing-intensive course moves from diagnosis to strategic cure. First, uncover the root causes of systemic disparities—including social determinants, implicit bias, and market failures. Then, translate those insights into operational strategy by embedding equity into clinic workflows, data governance, and quality metrics. You’ll complete an actionable Leadership Playbook ready to transform institutional culture and advance sustainable access for all. This dynamic writing intensive course requires students to create problem-solving initiatives in a variety of writing modalities.

Frances Fernández has over 25 years of experience in both nonprofit and for-profit executive healthcare leadership in a variety of settings, including home health, hospital-based outpatient services, research and education, assisted living, and consulting. She is particularly interested in human development and minority empowerment, and works fearlessly to promote inclusivity, diversity, and equity in healthcare services. Frances is an advocate of mental health awareness and education and organ donation and in her professional career has received accolades and recognition for quality initiatives and multi-million dollar grant allocations for access, increased and improved healthcare services for the HIV/AIDS population. She enjoys teaching and developing course materials as well as mentoring our future healthcare leaders.
Frances has been a member of the CCAPS DEI Faculty Committee and CCAPS Student Success subcommittee among other groups, where she has collaborated to effect changes and improvement in diversity, equity, inclusivity, and belonging as well as continued student success initiatives for the program and the College.

Sean McMoore has over 15 years of experience in the public and private sectors of education and health services. He currently serves as the diversity recruitment and retention supervisor at the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS), where he leads initiatives to build a more inclusive and equitable workforce and employee retention. Prior to joining DHS, Sean was the director of operations and DEI for a national mental health organization. A passionate advocate for teaching, talent development, and DEI, Sean is committed to creating positive and lasting impact in every space he occupies. He looks forward to inspiring and supporting the next generation of leaders in the healthcare field. Sean has been a part of the Healthcare Management advisory board since March 2023.
