Each year, we help students like you find ways to make your education more affordable. Take a look at the financial aid options below.
Undergraduate Degree Students
- Annually: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA, available October 1 each year; school code: 003969).
- Each term: Complete the CCAPS Scholarship Application. See details.

- Go to your MyU: My Finances to check your financial aid status.
Types of Available Aid
FAFSA Aid (automatically offered to eligible students)
- Grants and waivers (federal, state, and University, including the Native American Promise Tuition Program)
- Federal and University-administered loans
- Work-study (must indicate on FAFSA to be considered)

Employer Tuition Benefits: Talk with your employer. The U of M offers a Regents Scholarship to its eligible employees.
Senior Citizen Education Program (SCEP)
Please note that financial aid is limited for students pursuing a second undergraduate degree. Extended Term (nine-month) Online and Distance Learning (ODL) courses do not count toward financial aid, with two exceptions: the Minnesota State Grant and the Minnesota GI Bill allow all ODL courses you are enrolled in during the first two weeks of the semester to be counted.

Credit certificate students are not eligible for federal financial aid. However, some aid types may require students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Noncredit Students
Funding is available for CCAPS Professional Development programs and certificates for those with financial need as determined by CCAPS. You do NOT need to file a FAFSA to receive a noncredit CCAPS scholarship.
Please note: CCAPS does not provide funding for Boot Camp students. Prospective Boot Camp students should talk to their admission advisor about possible financial options, including discounts and scholarships specific to Boot Camps.

- Osher Lifelong Learning Institute scholarships (OLLI students)
- Non-University scholarships (refer to additional scholarship search resources)
Registration Discounts: Refer to your program or course site. Many programs offer a University of Minnesota Alumni Association (UMAA) member discount or a registration discount for individuals or employers enrolling in multiple courses.
Employer Funding: Talk with your employer. The U of M offers a discount for its employees for most noncredit courses.
Tax Benefits: Lifetime Learning Tax Credit and deductions
Nondegree/Guest Students
Nondegree students are not typically eligible for federal financial aid. However, students taking specific prerequisites required for admission to a degree program may be eligible for federal loans and can look into the prerequisite course work certification form.
