About This Course
This course explores the intersection of equity and aging, addressing how social, economic, and health disparities affect older adults in diverse communities. Students will examine key issues such as ageism, income inequality, access to healthcare, housing, and social services, with a focus on marginalized groups, including people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, and those with disabilities. Through case studies, policy analysis, and community engagement, learners will gain insights into creating inclusive policies and practices that promote dignity, respect, and quality of life for all individuals as they age. Participants will also explore strategies for fostering intergenerational solidarity, challenging ageist assumptions, and advocating for systemic change to support a just and equitable society for older adults.
