Scalable Web Architecture and Performance Optimization

This course is about taking the web applications you already know how to build and making sure they can handle the real world—thousands of users at once, heavy data loads, and the need for fast, reliable performance. While earlier courses (INET 4017 and 4018) focused on building and securing applications, this class looks at what happens when those applications need to scale beyond a single server or a handful of users. You’ll learn how to work with both SQL and NoSQL databases, making them faster and more efficient as your application grows. We’ll cover strategies like caching and load balancing so your app can serve more users without slowing down. You’ll also get hands-on practice with monitoring and debugging tools to spot bottlenecks and fix problems before they impact users. The course also introduces you to microservices—a modern way of breaking large applications into smaller, more manageable pieces—and shows you how companies use API management and rate-limiting to keep their systems running smoothly under pressure. By the end of the course, you’ll not only know how to design applications that work, but how to design applications that keep working as they grow. You’ll leave with the skills to build web systems that are scalable, optimized, and production-ready.

Prerequisites:

• Introduction to Web Development (INET 4017) or equivalent experience
• Advanced Web Development, Deployment and Security (INET 4018) or equivalent experience
