About This Course

This course will cover the building industries’ impact on the environment; sustainable building initiatives; environmental principles and practices throughout pre-con, construction, close-out and operations; impact on the construction manager’s role, procurement methods, contracts, estimating and scheduling, and team structure; adoption issues facing green construction; current technologies and future movements. Real-world knowledge will be applied through online lectures, online case studies, and online guest lectures.

Sample course topics: Architecture, LEED, net zero energy, integrated project delivery, field practices and processes, and the future of sustainability.

Debra Becker retired from full-time work in the building design and construction industry after more than 30 years. Her work included Airports Leader and Americas Construction Industry Leader for Honeywell Building Solutions (HBS), vice-president for Special Projects at Adolfson & Peterson Construction, and chair of the Continental Automated Buildings Association (CABA). She is currently supporting the local USGBC chapter in LEED building performance for nonprofit organizations. Debra is an associate member of the American Institute of Architects and prior board member of WomenVenture in Minnesota.
