About This Course

The purpose of this course is to educate students on the varieties of medical management practices that exist in the healthcare environment. Following the six domains of knowledge from the Medical Group Management Association, students will have the opportunity to understand the components required to structure and operate a medical group practice. Students will work within a small group to create a fictional medical group practice, identifying governance, legal, and operations structure of the group practice. In addition, the group will address important issues including patient care, human resources, medical staff, quality, diversity and inclusion, reimbursement, strategic planning, and community involvement.

William O. (Bill) Kenney is chief executive officer of Dermatology Consultants. Previously, he served as president of the Phillips Eye Institute for Allina Health and later as the VP of operations for the United Hospital Cardiovascular Service Line. He has served as a clinical social worker at United Hospital, focusing on oncology, psychiatry, endocrinology, and geriatrics. Later he served at HealthEast and Park Nicollet Health Services, Northwestern University and Medical Faculty Foundation, and Presbyterian Hospital. Bill has expertise in clinic, hospital, and long-term operations, and his experience in healthcare leadership includes administrative responsibility in cardiovascular services, ophthalmology, senior services, dermatology, and primary care operations.
