Bee Vang-Moua is the director of the Hmong language program in the Department of Asian Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Minnesota. She teaches the first- and second-year Hmong language courses, Medical Hmong (HMNG 1013), and Hmong Textiles and Identity (AMES 3766). During the summer, Bee leads immersive learning experiences to China and Thailand where students explore the Hmong diaspora and aspects of Hmong identity, indigeneity, and the many regional dialects of the Hmong language. Bee has a bachelor’s degree in Ethnic Studies and Communication and a master’s degree in World Languages. She is a Hmong linguist and cultural specialist whose expertise is in orthography, localized identity, colloquial expressions, and translanguaging.
