About This Course

This course gives students a foundation for assessing and treating post-trauma responses in various populations through the exploration of current theory, conceptualization, and models related to trauma and crisis intervention. The course covers numerous types of traumatic events, impact, assessment, and common elements in treatment approaches for trauma. The course prepares students to work with clients who have experienced trauma, utilize crisis intervention strategies, and understand psychological first aid. Special attention is on evidence-based approaches such as Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and others throughout the semester.
