David and Terry Gilberstadt strongly support both liberal arts and scientific education as a broadening experience and as the lynch pin in modern society. In 1976, David Gilberstadt earned a degree in Management Information Systems from what is now the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Completing his degree through a combination of full and part-time studies, Mr. Gilberstadt was able to complete his degree in seven years, due to the time constraints of starting a computer company early in the small computer industry revolution. He was able to fund some of his computer and business courses at the University by means of a Nolte-Miller Scholarship through the College of Continuing Education, now known as the College of Continuing and Professional Studies. Mr. and Mrs. Gilberstadt hope that this scholarship fund may help some students pursue their dreams; perhaps inspired to entrepreneurship.

David A. Thue was a 1989 graduate of the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Business with a bachelor of science in accounting. In 1979, at age 23, he passed the CPA exam while a junior in standing. In the mid-80s, he recommitted himself to finish his undergraduate degree. The classes he took during this period gave him the opportunity to add more "tools" to the range of services he was able to provide his clients. He had a passion to help non-traditional students as they pursued their undergraduate degree in a manner which fit their personal and professional lives. Jennifer’s undergraduate education was a 13-year odyssey that culminated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota’s College of Liberal Arts—a degree that would not have been possible without the entry-point and flexibility provided by CCAPS (then, the College of Continuing Education). Jennifer eventually earned a Master's degree from the Carlson School of Management in Human Resources and Industrial Relations. Her husband, Michael, forged his own relationship with the U as an employee early in his career. Jennifer was a Pell Grant recipient, herself, and her personal and professional experiences inspired a deep commitment to supporting access to education; an understanding that talent and drive, and resources are too often misaligned; and a clear-eyed knowledge that the pathways to completing a college degree are not always straightforward. It is in this spirit—and in gratitude—that Jennifer and Michael funded this scholarship so that future students can find their own path in pursuit of their dreams.
