Mentors
Mentor Eligibility
To be eligible, you’ll need to:
- be enrolled in a participating undergraduate program both fall 2024 and spring 2025
- have good academic standing with a 2.5 GPA or higher.
- attend a student orientation session at the start of fall term.
Mentor Expectations
As a mentor, your role is to help CCAPS transfer students get the most out of their college experience and to help them transition to the University of Minnesota.
Mentors should to be ready to:
- initiate regular contact with your mentee via phone, email, and/or meetings (virtual).
- be proactive and willing to meet your mentee at least once a month and see the relationship through to its official end (September–April).
- act professional at all times and return phone calls/emails promptly.
- help students establish realistic and attainable goals and identify ways to achieve them.
- provide guidance and support by sharing personal experiences.
- offer constructive suggestions and feedback.
- notify the peer mentor program staff if circumstances require you to stop participating in the mentorship program or if there is a concern with the mentoring relationship.
Mentees
Mentee Eligibility
All new transfer students from outside of the University of Minnesota or those transferring from another University of Minnesota campus in fall 2024 or spring 2025 are eligible for the CCAPS Peer Mentor Program.
Mentee Expectations
Mentees should be ready to:
- commit to being accessible and engaged in peer mentoring during the entire program (September–April).
- discuss your goals and needs and what you hope to gain from the relationship with your peer mentor.
- participate in self-reflection and self-development and receive feedback.
- return phone calls/emails promptly.
- notify the peer mentor program staff if circumstances require you to stop participating in the mentorship program or if there is a concern with the mentoring relationship.
