Tom Hegblom

Tom Hegblom

Tom Hegblom is the Director of Graduate Studies for the Trauma Informed Care Certificate and MPS in Sex Therapy, as well as a resident faculty member in the master's in Integrated Behavioral Health and Addictions Counseling programs. 

His teaching and research interests are culture and human diversity issues, specifically providing queer- and trans-affirmative mental healthcare, ethical considerations within the counseling field, postmodern counseling theories, expanding critical thinking among counselors, and developing the self-efficacy of counseling students. He sees clients at a group private practice and is involved in various state, regional, and national professional organizations. Tom has a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Walden University, a MA in Counseling from the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies, and a BA in Youth Studies, Spanish, and Educational Psychology from CCAPS at the University of Minnesota.

Stefani Goerlich

Stefani Goerlich, PhD is a Clinical Sexologist and Forensic Social Worker who writes, teaches, and presents on topics related to gender, sexuality and relationship diversities. She has written four award-winning books on BDSM/kink and mental health and lectures on Sexual Trauma, Trauma-Informed Care, Sexual Dysfunction and Differences, and Digital Sexual Health at both the Universities of Minnesota and Michigan,  as well as maintaining a private practice in Metro Detroit. Stefani’s primary areas of academic interest are in social perceptions of deviance and how we conceptualize healthy sexuality and relationships, how these conceptualizations shift over time, and how they impact people (particularly erotic minorities) in forensic and clinical settings. In addition to critical/transformational approaches to forensic sexology, her secondary areas of interest include the intersection of intimacy and technology and psychotherapy for/with religious minorities. 

Eugene Hall

Eugene Hall

Eugene is a resident faculty member in the Master of Professional Studies in Integrated Behavioral Health and Master of Professional Studies in Addictions Counseling programs. He is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Minneapolis and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. He completed his master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Family Psychology from the University of St. Thomas. Eugene completed his PhD in Couple & Family Therapy at the University of MN before finishing a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at Boston University. His research interests centered around sexual and gender minority stress. Clinically, he has specialized training in working with PTSD, substance use, and personality disorders. Eugene enjoys using Narrative Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, and Brainspotting in his clinical practice.

Emily Jordan Jensen

Emily is the director of Graduate Studies and a resident faculty member in the Master of Professional Studies in Integrated Behavioral Health and Addictions Counseling programs. Her research has focused on increasing access to mental health services for rural populations. Clinically, Emily works in an outpatient treatment setting where she specializes in treating couples who are experiencing infidelity and addiction. She also works with individuals facing PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Emily is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and she has a PhD in Family Social Science/Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Minnesota. She has an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Mary's University and a BS in Communication Studies from Northwestern University.

Fiyyaz Karim

Fiyyaz Karim

Fiyyaz Karim (he/him/his) is a resident faculty member in the Master of Professional Studies in Integrated Behavioral Health and Addictions Counseling programs. Prior to working in higher education, Dr. Karim was employed in community mental health outpatient settings, addressing the needs of marginalized communities. He currently serves as a consultant and has conducted professional training sessions on diversity, equity, and inclusivity. 

Dr. Karim has done clinical work and research in trauma, as well as grief and loss with a focus on disenfranchised losses. He holds a PsyD from the University of St. Thomas, and a BS in both Sociology and Psychology from the University of Minnesota. 

He also serves on the Board of Directors of Agate Housing and Services, and the Governor's Advisory Council on Opioids, Substance Use, and Addiction, as well as on Healthcare Management Advisory Board in CCAPS. 

R John Sutherland

R. John Sutherland

R. John is vice president of addiction services at Sagent. He holds a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Houston and a Master of Health Administration from the University of Minnesota. He is board-certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in Counseling Psychology. He has held roles as systems director of addictions services at Allina Health and clinical director of operations at North Memorial Health. He also served as a licensed psychologist at HealthEast Care System and Bay Pines VA Hospital and is a Certified National Trainer in Prolonged Exposure for PTSD. He is on the board of governors-region 11 and co-chairs the public policy committee for the Minnesota Associates of Resources and Chemical Health and previously sat on Governor Waltz’s Opioid Advisory Board.
