The Star Tribune recently featured the University of Minnesota College of Continuing and Professionals Studies' latest initiative, The Midlife Academy, a program created to help adults in midlife and beyond imagine what’s next. Reporter Erin Adler points out that the U is joining a growing trend: “Similar programs for retirees and seniors are offered by Harvard University, the University of Notre Dame and others.”
The story highlights The Midlife Academy’s first course, Cultivating Purpose, which offers readings, journaling, and weekly activities designed to help participants reflect and reset. Course Facilitator Megan Voorhees describes it as “a community experience” and says her goal is for “every Wednesday to feel like a mini retreat.”
As Program Director Kate Schaefers puts it, "What we're finding is people need help navigating those transitions to get on paths that make sense for how they’re living their lives now. They’re also wanting to look ahead for what’s next.”
The article also shares insights from participants who joined to build connections, explore new directions, and find fresh meaning in midlife.
