This section will teach you how you can download and then easily replace the remediated file using UDOIT (Universal Design Online Content Inspection Tool). This tutorial will not cover all the information on how to remediate documents. For more information on how to remediate documents, more information on resources can be found on the ATD Digital Accessibility landing page. For an introduction to accessing UDOIT, please check out UDOIT and Document Accessibility.
Downloading File to Remediate
To download the file to remediate click on Review Files at the top.
You will see a list of all the files in a table with a date of the last time they were updated as well as the list of errors. Click on the Review button for the file you want to download.
On the pop-up window, click on Download File.
A file browser menu should appear letting you choose where to download the file to your computer.
Duplicate Files
You may find instances where you find files that have a similar name with a filename suffix of numerical iteration such as in the screenshot below.
Rather than having to remediate the same file over and over: it is more time efficient to recreate the links in course content to make a new linked reference to the original file in the course files and remove the duplicated documents from the course files to keep it more organized. We have a tutorial UDOIT and Removing Duplicate Files.
Replacing File
Once your files have been remediated, they will need to be added back. Assuming all duplicate files have been removed and new links made that refer to the original file, replacing the files can begin.
First you will want to navigate to the Review Files page and press the Review button for the file you want to replace.
On the next window click on the button Replace file with uploaded file. (Step 1)
On the next window, you can drag the remediated file into the Drag file here space or click on the Choose a file to upload (Step 2) to select the file from your browser window.
Once the file is uploaded, click on the blue Submit button. (Step 3) Every location in the course that had linked to that file will now point to the newly fixed file without needing to fix links on every page that refers to the document. This is one reason why linking to prevent duplicates is important.
